Theme: Friends For the Journey

1) WHEN: Wednesday July 14th to Saturday July 17th 2010

2) WHAT: KindlingsFest is a celebration of Art & Ideas where they intersect with the spiritual. This four-day getaway provides just the right mix of free time for you and your family to enjoy the refreshing wonders of Orcas Island while drinking in the a stimulating morning lecture, conversations with artists in residence and BagEnd Café .

3) WHERE: Off the coast of Washington State on beautiful Orcas Island, gem of the San Juan islands. Orcas Island was named by Island Magazine as one of the top ten islands in the world to call home. Events are held at Orcas Island Community Church, 176 Madrona Street Eastsound Washington 98245

4) WHO: Poet and writer Luci Shaw, Dr. Hal Poe, Dr. Jerry Root, Nigel Goodwin, Jeff Johnson, Composer/Singer/Songwriter.  We’re excited to announce the following additions: Singer/Songwriter-in-residence Bob Bennett and Artist-in-residence Kathy Hastings! Dr. Jeff Keuss, youth culture guru, will speak on: “iPod, YouTube, WiiFit – Friendship through the eyes of Emerging Adults.” More to be announced soon.

5) SCHEDULE: KindlingsFest is intentionally light on programming so you can relax and enjoy the beauty and slower pace of life on Orcas Island.

At 8:30 AM Wednesday through Saturday mornings Jerry Root will lead a devotional time with music from Jeff Johnson and Grant Myles-Era.

At 10 AM Wednesday through Saturday mornings we will enjoy a series of lectures on the theme “Friends for the Journey.” Hal Poe will explore the Inklings, C.S. Lewis literary friends. Luci Shw will describe her lifelong friendship with the late Madeleine L’Engle. And More.

At 7PM Dick Staub will host a KindlingsMuse event with our artists in residence: Our finale will be Saturday evening at 7PM when we will enjoy an outdoor concert on the village green  followed by root beer floats back at BagEnd Café.

At 8:30 PM we will head out into the beautiful evening for BagEnd Café. Hosted by British actor and arts advocate Nigel Goodwin, BagEnd Cafés are improvisational and participatory celebrations of the creativity of folks at the KindlingsFest event.

Buffet Lunch After each lecture we offer a catered buffet ($12 per person). You will order meals when you register, but you will pay for your meals when you check in for KindlingsFest. This meal after the morning lecture is a great way to meet people from all over the country (and world) who are joining us for KindlingsFest. All other items (see below: accommodations, meals and all other events) are ala carte! Please use the links below to book your accommodations and make your travel arrangements NOW! Orcas Island gets overbooked in the summer.

6) REGISTRATION. Our registration fees for KindlingsFest 2010 will be very modest as we hope  only to cover all the expenses for this event. Pricing will be announced soon.

Registering early saves you money, assures you’ll be able to attend (we have space for 300) and helps us plan. When registration opens. you may register online using a credit card to make your donation via PayPal or you may complete and then print out the online registration form and send your check made out to The Kindlings to: KindlingsFest, PO Box 729, Eastsound, WA 98245

In the meantime it is a good idea to book your accomodations.

Plan on arriving Tuesday, and leaving Sunday afternoon.
