Title: Old Man and Boy) It is one near and dear to my heart. I'm an older man who sees great promise in the future generation thoughtful, creatives for whom God is of central importance. I was young once and my life was estimably enriched by those who went before me, who I admired and trusted. Since the beginning of time older and younger generations have asked if they can live together. (Shakespeare coined the phrase, “Crabbed age and Youth” in a poem by that title.) Today we live in a fragmented age that separates us into demographic groups by our age. We see this in culture and in faith communities. At The Kindlings we know it was not always so, nor do we believe it should it be. From ancient times the aged and youth have been encouraged to know one another, learn from one another, create with and love one another. The Kindlings is devoted to rekindling the spiritual, intellectual, creative legacy of Christian in culture intergenerationally so it stands to reason [...]

The Art of Forgiveness, Lewis SmedesPodcast: Dick Staub Interview

A. Smedes, Fuller Seminary Professor and the author of 15 books, including the best-selling Forgive and Forget. He died in December 2002 but his imprint on the lives of students and friends remains. He was unforgettable in a quiet, unassuming, gentle way and guided many of us towards a deeper understanding and practice of forgiveness. He once said. “to forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover that the prisoner was you.” At his memorial service Fuller president Richard Mouw said, “Fuller Seminary has lost one of its great faculty leaders. He embodied a unique blend of intellectual rigor, pastoral warmth and eloquent expression. More than one of his former students has said that while his class lectures were unforgettable, it was worth coming to class just to hear his opening prayer.” Rabbi Allan Schranz of Sutton Place Synagogue in New York City said of Smedes, “Lew knew what it meant to be a friend. His deep caring matched his soaring intellect. His thoughtful devoutness was authentic because it was the bloom of his mind and soul.” Original Date" September 8, 1997.

<enclosure

Chattaway join host Bill Hogg in welcoming Dr. Myron Penner, PhD., to the panel. Myron is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Trinity Western University and an avid follower of Modern Family and college sports. You won't want to miss the wit and wisdom of our panel as they dive into this issue. The archetypal Leave it to Beaver family is absent from prime time programming; instead, nontraditional families have made their way to the forefront of our televisions. As HBO's polygamist family of Big Love wraps up its 5-season run, TLC offers us the Brown family, practicing polygamists of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints faith. The Big Bang Theory and Grey's Anatomy follow young professionals who form community in the absence of loving family. Modern Family, portrays traditional, blended, and homosexual families, all of which grapple with the question, "What does it mean to be a family today?" We'll pose the same question to our panel as we explore the messages of prime time's most popular shows.

Rev.
