"A Kindlings Kind of Christmas" Dick Staub

From Dick Staub to Kindlings Everywhere!

Have Yourself A "Kindlings Kind of Christmas!”

As a Kindling you are part of a relational movement. I pray your Christmas will be full of rich times with family and friends and may your very presence illuminate and spread the warmth of Christmas to all you meet, as Washington Irving said, "Christmas is a season for kindling the fire for hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.”

As a Kindling you are dedicated to rekindling the spiritual, intellectual and creative legacy of thoughtful creatives for whom God is of central importance in culture, so may you celebrate the rich art, extraordinary music and the amazing ideas of Christmas, simple enough for a child to grasp, yet profound enough for wisest to grapple with, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, the light of the world entered our darkness, God so loved us that He sent his Son into the world that we might be saved.”

To be A Kindling is to discover who God has made you to be and then to be yourself fully to the glory of God. In an age of impoverished souls, those who are fully human will stand out. Thoreau said, "Life consists with wildness. The most alive is the wildest!” We say celebrate the rich and wildly diverse palette God has created in each other! Why does Nigel Goodwin come to mind when I think of wildness? Nigel would want me to remind you that A Kindling keeps the inner child alive, which means we revel in childlikeness, but not in childishness!

We Kindlings carry Christ in our heart and God’s indwelling Spirit makes our dark moments lighter and tinges the mundane with glory.  We operate in the spirit of Dickens who said, "I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

It has been an amazing year: over 50 provocative Kindlings Muse Shows, three fabulous Kindlings Hearth Retreats and a summer KindlingsFest on Orcas Island that took on the issue of intergenerational disconnects. We are excited to see a growing online community. The flicker is being fanned into a flame and the flame is a becoming a warm glowing light in a dark world. This is as it should be, for the purpose of a kindling is to start a fire.

But as Kindlings we realize that for the fire to grow requires more than kindling and so at year’s end, please show solidarity with us by making a generous contribution to our work of fanning these nascent flames into a blaze. Please consider making a generous year-end donation to the Kindlings (Click here to see a specific year-end ideas or read them below.)

Thanks for joining me as together we kindle the flame!
