This interview reminded me of a movie released through Film Movement called Daybreak. It’s about a man on death row in an Iranian prison, but he’s had to go back and forth from the execution room several times because the family of his victim didn’t show up for the execution. As it’s portrayed in the film, Islamic law requires that the victim’s family be present at the execution to either condemn or forgive the prisoner. It’s a powerful movie, almost Bressonian except that the characters show emotions.
