Dick, thanks so much for taking the time to do the podcasts around your new book with bill. You two break me up…the Sean Connery was priceless. Anyways, as an artist who has really been like the round peg trying to fit into the square hole … in terms of creativity and the church. I just didn’t seem to fit. Anyways, I just got your book only yesterday through amazon.ca…ordered back in early March. Anyways, thanks again, looking forward to the read. Peace, from just north in Victoria BC.

Hate to say this–but I really think you need to read my book! I’ve thought about these questions for forty years and my best response to your questions is laid out thoughtfully & systemically in The Culturally Savvy Christian! I hope you can read it–it was meant to help someone just like you are describing yourself!

First of all, thank you so much for all these Podcasts. I’m striving harder every day to be a Christian who is a thinker, too! I have so many questions, though (which are on the road to being answered by The Kindlings Muse every time I listen).

After listening to this episode (and the one before), I’m wondering: what is the proper balance for a Christian’s involvement in the culture at large (i.e. engagement of books, film, art, etc.) and a Christian’s involvement in the Christian community? Personally, I loath the Christian bubble … I think its trite, unrefined, and too conformed to societal marketing schemes. BUT I can’t deny that we as Christians need accountability and encouragement in the faith. It seems like that is something that hasn’t been touched on very much here.

I’m pursuing film at a very very sound Christian college (although I’m mostly there for a theological and philosophical education) and this has been rattling in my brain. Where is the line where we get TOO MUCH involved in the culture at large and start forgetting about encouraging our brothers and sisters in the faith AND gaining knowledge of God, his ways, and how to live by his word?
